When completed, the house will be Gold LEED certified, meaning that it will be wrapped-up in enough insulation to keep the beers cold without coozies (but we'll use them, natch). A row of 8 clerestory windows faces south and collects the passive solar radiation, while an array of 24 solar panels collects it actively, providing all the electricity. Rainwater is collected in a 350 gallon barrel and the rainy day soundtrack will be provided by the metal roof. Radiant heat in the concrete floor, recycled building materials and low-e glass round out the house's green cred. Welcome to Santa Cruz, greener than Kermit.
